Free SAS

FREE SAS is a French telecommunications operator associated with the consumer ISP brand “Free” and described in public documents as a subsidiary of the Iliad group. Public company materials also characterize it as acting both as an ISP and as a data host.

On the public Internet, FREE SAS is widely identified with AS12322 (AS-PROXAD), with multiple BGP/ASN directories mapping this ASN to “Proxad / Free SAS” and showing France-based routing footprints. PeeringDB lists the network under AS12322, and BGP tooling indicates RPKI is in use for the ASN; however, public sources vary in how much detail they expose about prefixes and interconnects.

Across widely used consumer review platforms (for the Free consumer ISP service), ratings skew negative and recurrent complaints focus on support and incident handling; the volume of reviews is high enough to treat this as a meaningful signal. At the same time, those reviews reflect retail customer experience and don’t isolate backbone or hosting-only performance.
